Gaches Traditional Plasterers were formed in 1948 by Gordon Daniel Gaches who was Philip’s Father and Philip has been in charge of this family plastering business since 1987.
During this time Gaches have carried out plastering and plaster conservation projects in some of the UKs finest buildings including Royal Palaces, Country Houses and Government buildings including Parliament, Downing Street and Grimsthorpe Castle.
Philip has been teaching and lecturing traditional plasterwork and its conservation for over 30 years which has taken him to Myanmar, Afghanistan, United States and across Europe in France, Italy and Transylvania in Romania.
He has taught for English Heritage, The Kings Foundation, The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings ( SPAB ) and the Landmark Trust among many others.
Philip has had several articles published on a range of topics regarding the conservation of traditional plasterwork and has just published his first book on the topic of Early British Plasterwork as well as finishing his second book on the subject of “ Lime Plastering and the Decorative Arts “.
Philip recently undertook some plasterwork conservation around one of Grimsthorpe Castle’s ceiling paintings and we are delighted to welcome him back to talk about his work and passion.
We hope you enjoy the talk. Discussion and questions are encouraged towards the end of the event.
